Responsible Alcohol Management Program

RAMP is a voluntary certification program that offers incentives for licensees who take part. Once that participation in the four-part program has been completed, the licensee is certified in RAMP training for two years.
The program consists of the following elements:
• Alcohol server/seller training: An establishment must have at least 50 percent of its alcohol-service employees complete a PLCB-certified alcohol server/seller education program.
Training for licensees and their staff is conducted by independent trainers who have been approved and have had their curriculum certified by the PLCB.
Employees are tested on the material at the end of the course and must score 80 percent or better to be certified.
• Owner/manager training: An owner and/or manager must attend a free six-hour training session provided by the PLCB. Training is held several times a month at various locations throughout the state.
• New employee orientation: All new hires must attend an orientation prior to their first day as a member of the licensee’s alcohol-server staff. A checklist and appropriate learning materials are provided by the PLCB.
• Signage: Licensees are responsible for posting and maintaining at least two signs about responsible alcohol service. Information should include acceptable forms of ID and an explanation that alcohol service will be refused to minors and visibly intoxicated patrons.
Having an educated, responsible and well-trained alcohol-service staff and management, as well as being recognized as a responsible licensee, is among the benefits of RAMP certification.
